Holy Saturday – 04th April 2026
Dear brothers and sisters,
Tonight everything begins in darkness. We began the celebration outside, in the night, with the new fire and the Easter candle. And slowly, slowly, the light entered the church. One candle lit another candle, and another, and another, until the darkness no longer had power. This night teaches us that one small light is enough to begin to push away the darkness.
The Gospel brings us to the tomb early in the morning. Two women go to the tomb. They do not go with hope, they go with sorrow. They go to weep, to anoint a dead body. For them, everything was finished. The dream was finished. The hope was finished. All that remained was a tomb.
And how many times do we also walk toward the “tombs” of our lives without hope… a failure, an illness, a loss, a disappointment, a fear. Moments when we say, “It is over. Nothing more can be done.”
But the Gospel says there was a great earthquake. The stone was rolled away. The tomb is empty. The angel says, “Do not be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. He has risen.”
These are the most beautiful words in the history of the world: “He is not here. He has risen.”
