Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – 06th July 2025
Today we come to a vibrant and dynamic passage – full of movement, mission, and divine purpose. In the Gospel today, Jesus sends out seventy-two disciples – not just the twelve, but many others – on a sacred mission. And what a mission it is! They are sent ahead of Him, to prepare the way, to proclaim peace, to heal the sick, and to bring the Kingdom of God nearby. And they return filled with joy. But Jesus gently and wisely shifts their focus: “do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven”
Notice something important: “After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two…” Jesus doesn’t send them out alone. Ministry is not meant to be done in isolation. He sends them in pairs – to support one another, to encourage each other, to pray together, to share the burden and the joy. Maybe today you feel called to serve, but you don’t know where to start. Perhaps you feel too small, too unprepared. But the Lord is calling you – maybe to speak an encouraging word to a neighbour, to pray for someone at work, or to be a light in your family. Ministry is not just for pastors or evangelists. Every believer is called to be a witness. We are all sent.
