The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ – 22nd June 2025
Today, the Church throughout the world pauses in reverence and joy to celebrate the profound mystery of the Eucharist – the real presence of Jesus Christ in His Body and Blood under the appearance of bread and wine. The Gospel chosen for this solemnity – the multiplication of the loaves and fish – is not just a miracle of compassion. It is also a powerful prefiguration of the Eucharist, a living sign of what Jesus would later do at the Last Supper and what He continues to do for us at every Mass.
The Gospel tells us that Jesus “spoke to the crowds about the kingdom of God and healed those who needed healing.” But as the day wears on, the disciples want to send the people away. Instead, Jesus says something unexpected: “You give them something to eat.”
This moment is crucial. Jesus doesn’t only speak about God’s love – He embodies it. He feeds the hungry, both spiritually and physically. In the same way, in the Eucharist, Jesus doesn’t just teach us – He gives us Himself as food for the journey.
